Food safe-essential for wood care.

This is the perfect compliment to your wood cutting boards and butcher blocks. Before using a new cutting board or butcher block, treat it to prevent staining and absorption of food odors and bacteria. Proper surface treatment is important to guard against germs and/or mold growth on both new and older boards. The wood surface needs an oil that can be repeatedly applied to the wood pores and repel food particles, liquids, and oils. Before applying oil to a cutting board or butcher block, warm the oil slightly.

CARE &TREATMENT
Wipe down the board with a sponge and hot, soapy water immediately after use. Get rid of minor stains by sprinkling table salt on the affected area and rubbing the area with a lemon wedge this procedure should be done for the care of your wood cutting board. Use an abrasive antibacterial cleaner and scouring pad for tougher stains. Rub the board with fine sandpaper to get rid of severe stains. Be sure to rub along the grain of the wood. Rinse the board well. Wipe off excess water with a clean towel and lean the board against a counter top to allow for even drying. Sponge on the oil with a rag and let it dry. After each treatment, wait about four to six hours and wipe off oil that did not soak into the wood (oxidation or hardening of the oil will take approximately 6 hours). Re-oil the cutting board or butcher block monthly or as often as needed. Make sure that cutting board or block surface is completely dry before applying oil.

When the wood surface starts looking pale and dry re-apply the cutting board oil.
