Need special care!
There are a few basic guidelines to follow in order to maintain a wood cutting board in good condition.
Hand wash only
Wash thoroughly but quickly without leaving the board submerged in water for an extended period of time. Also note that wooden cutting boards are NOT dishwasher safe. In both cases this will lead to cracks in the wood which are a safety concern due to bacteria.
Keep oiled
Even with hand washing, eventually cracks can appear if the board is not oiled regularly. Use our brand of wood cutting board oil, or other food-safe oils that do not spoil. Vegetable oil is not a good choice as it will degrade and cause odor over time. Check the label for safe mineral oils, or use Walnut or Almond Oil, but be aware of nut allergies when you have guests over for dinner.
Cut lightly
Studies have shown that deep scars in a cutting can retain bacteria after a light wash. Therefore it is recommended that minimal pressure is applied when cutting through food.
